Ingredients
  

Berries

  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 6 cups fresh ripe blackberries
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter, melted

Batter

  • 2.5 cups all purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups milk
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • In a small bowl, whisk sugar and cornstarch together. Drizzle blackberries with melted butter and sprinkle with cornstarch mixture, then toss until evenly coated.
  • Spread blackberry mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt together until evenly blended. Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla until combined but still slightly lumpy.
  • Pour the batter over the blackberries in the baking dish.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until berries are tender and the crust is golden brown, about 55 to 60 minutes.
